Florida Part 1…

We arrived into Florida from Georgia and headed to St Augustine for one night of exploring. Our campground was at Anastasia State Park just 2 miles from downtown. After setting up we went out for dinner at The Conch House Restaurant which was right on the water and had raised hut tables and baby alligators! After dinner we went and checked out the historic town of St Augustine

The following morning we had a little time at the St Augustine Beach before packing up to drive further south!

From St Augustine we went south past Daytona to Sebastian Inlet which was out on sandbar. It was a cool campground surrounded by ocean on one side and the inlet bay on the other… we went on a bike ride to explore and got to watch dolphins playing in the water 🐬 However, the bugs were miserable so you couldn’t stop or they would attack… the worst were bugs called “no see ems” which we’ve never experienced but they were terrible little biting bugs you can barely see!

Our next day of travels took us from mid Florida down the remainder of the East Coast to The Florida Keys! We stayed one night at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo. After setting up we went out to dinner at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill (former coach of Cowboys & Dolphins/sports announcer)… it was ok and he might want to do some updating 😝

Friday morning we packed up to head out to Sugarloaf Key KOA to meet up with Kevin’s cousin and his family. It was just under 2 hours driving out the keys and was our main destination farthest from home!

3,400+ miles from home!! 😳

We arrived at the KOA after getting groceries for the weekend and got all setup across from the other Kardos’s! They live about 5 hours from the Keys so it was great to have them come meet for a long weekend of camping together. Soon after setting up we all went to the pool for some swimming and cool off time – it was hot and humid! That evening we went across from the KOA to Mangrove Mama’s for a seafood dinner. The next day we had planned to do a jet ski tour, but were informed the boys were under the minimum age so we changed plans to another pool day and decided to rent a pontoon boat Sunday instead!

The following day we wanted to do a little exploring around Key West. It was HOT… 96 with humidity which made it “feel like” 106 according to weather apps! 🥵 We did a quick tour of the butterfly museum and got photos with the Southernmost Point in the U.S. then grabbed cheesesteaks to go and headed back to the campground.

After returning from Key West it was our big date night!!! We were soooo thankful Brian & Ashley were willing to watch the boys for the evening so we could go out to a nice dinner. We went to The Dining Room on Little Torch Key and it started with taking a Captain Craft boat ride to an island! It was an absolutely gorgeous, relaxing, delicious, and a much needed get away for us ❤️

The following day we packed up to leave the KOA and went back to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Brian, Ashley & their kids had planned to drive back for Ashley to get back to work, but they decided to stay an extra night and joined us at the state park! We all booked a glass bottom tour boat ride for our final day and it was so fun!

It was time to leave the Keys after an amazing 6 days! 😢 From there we headed to West Florida to spend a few days at Brian & Ashley’s house in Punta Gorda, FL. Part 2 of Florida coming soon…
