Touring down the East Coast… Delaware ➡️ Florida

Our adventures down the East Coast have been quite eventful! After leaving Delaware we drove through Virginia on our way to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. About a half hour before arriving to our campground we saw “The Home of Grave Digger” in Poplar Branch. There were 2 old Grave Digger monster trucks so we decided we had to go back the next day! That evening we got setup at OBX campground in Kill Devil Hills just outside Kitty Hawk. It was a nice campground right on a creek in the Outerbanks with a small playground and deer that frequented daily.

The next day was our full day to explore around the Kitty Hawk area. First stop was Digger’s Diner for breakfast with Grave Digger! Bentley was in heaven seeing the monster trucks and all the cool memorabilia! Plus we went on a monster truck ride!! It’s all owned by the famous Anderson family and houses some of the original trucks driven by Dennis Anderson.

After an action packed morning we grabbed some groceries then it was nap time back at the RV. After some rest we went to explore the Wright Brothers Monument where the first flight took place. It was very educational and really cool to learn about some significant history.

After we finished at the monument tour we decided we needed to checkout the boardwalk area and found a cool spot to grab a snack on the beach. For dinner we ordered take out to enjoy back at the RV from a locals spot called the SaltBox and it was amazing!!

The next day it was time to head to our next stop in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We had originally only planned to stay 1 night in Kitty Hawk area but after realizing there was more we wanted to see we extended a night which meant we had a longer drive to complete to SC, but we did it! The boys were troopers and slept a good portion of the 6 hour drive and we found a county playground outside Jacksonville for them to enjoy. We had 2 nights booked at Myrtle Beach State Park and it was right on the ocean! We started out our Friday morning with beach time.

After beach time we all got showered to remove the sand out of all the cracks then it was naptime. We had one full day to explore the downtown Myrtle Beach tourist attractions! First stop was a rooftop restaurant called Tin Roof with awesome views and delicious tacos. From there we went across the street to ride some rides… Bentley is a little adrenaline junky like his parents and rode the roller coaster with mommy 3 times!!!

After rides we went to ride the SkyWheel giant Ferris wheel on the pier. Great views of the sunset, ocean, and city!

Saturday was another travel day leaving South Carolina and heading to Ft McAllister State Park outside of Savannah, Georgia. After getting setup we explored the campground a little and found a fun kids play area with a zip line like swing. As we arrived to the state park we noticed a small restaurant called Fish Tales with southern cuisine so we had to try it out and glad we did!

We had two full days to explore the Savannah, Georgia area! It’s gorgeous and such a cool town. The humidity is definitely hard to get used to but luckily there was a small breeze or we found restaurants with AC to cool off! For lunch we went to Paula Deen’s restaurant called The Lady & Sons – it was family style Southern food and sooooo yummy, but soooo much food. Afterwards we walked around town and decided to do a horse carriage ride with the boys where we also learned some history about the city. The afternoon we walked around the downtown, found a cool rooftop bar with a slide, and enjoyed the riverfront.

The following morning we had made arrangements to meet up with Kevin’s distant cousin, Jim & his wife, Debbie. They live about a half hour outside Savannah. He is cousins with Kevin’s mom and reached out about getting together and it was great to meet them both! We had a delicious brunch in downtown Savannah at Huey’s then walked around the town a little with them. Thanks so much for taking time to come meet up with us!

The following day we packed up but before leaving we had to do the full tour of Ft McAllister. It was an old fort from the Civil War with underground bunkers and very cool to explore… minus the attacking mosquitos! From Georgia we will be spending a few weeks exploring Florida!!! First stop is a night in St Augustine, FL. Our main destination is to meet Kevin’s cousin- Brian & his wife Ashley at Sugarloaf Key/Key West KOA on Friday 9/9 for the KOA appreciation weekend! Our next post will share our Floridian adventures… 🐊☀️🕶🌴
